Post Natal Mother and Baby Yoga
After pregnancy and the birth of your baby, as a new mother you may feel that you would like some support in being able to recover and post natal care options can be a bit lacking.
Your New Body
New mothers often realise that their bodies aren’t the same and the pre-pregnancy exercises don’t feel quite right just yet. In order to support you and offer help in re-discovering your sense of mind and body connection we will work with your new body as it is and make it our mission, together to re-empower you. This is especially true if you had an unexpected C-section or experienced any trauma. Healing in mind and body takes time and yoga can help.
Reintroducing Gentle Movement
Introducing gentle movement back into your body soon after your baby is born is a lovely thing to do; simple poses like table top, a gentle table stretch and shoulder rolls are all quite passive but will help support the muscle groups that are working to support your new baby.
After six to eight weeks
Your body may feel more ready to engage in gentle exercise.
What to avoid
Avoid spinal twists like revolved triangle, deep abdominal movements like planks and curls and deep spinal extension like Upward Facing Dog and all other back bends.
It won’t be long before you are able to enjoy more classes and maybe add in Pilates to help engage the pelvic floor and lower stomach muscles.
Post Natal Mother and Baby Yoga at Tidal
This is a gentle yoga class to enjoy with your new born baby. Your baby will be resting on blankets and supported by bolsters as you engage in gentle movement. Each movement will lend itself to engaging with your wee one and with the use of colourful scarves your baby will be entranced as it sees you move gently.
The class is very relaxed and feeding your baby, chatting with your baby and enjoying quiet time will be encouraged. A crying baby is all part of the process and Alex is on hand for baby cuddles! Cups of tea, biscuits and bananas are consumed!
Come and join us on Wednesdays at 11.15 – 12.15
